Day 42 - England Lose… but show some fight

It was a humid morning this morning - apparently 96% humidity. I therefore decided to have another quiet morning, as whilst there was a chance that the cricket could be over in four balls, it equally could be another full day!

No-one was feeling particularly optimistic after England’s poor showing yesterday, and the atmosphere both on the bus and at the ground was a bit more subdued today. I took advantage of it being a bit quieter to have a bit more of an explore of The Gabba before taking my seat for the day’s play.

The morning session was excellent as Stokes and Jacks both got stuck in, at least ensuring that Australia would have to bat again. Come lunchtime, there was even a glimmer of hope emerging.

Sadly a stunning catch by Steve Smith to remove Jacks ended the partnership. Stokes got his 50, but England were only able to set Australia a target of 65 to win.

England took two wickets, and Archer was bowling seriously quickly, but the end result was inevitable - Steve Smith finishing the match with a six.

Overall, whilst I am pleased that England at least showed some fight today, and the test lasted four days, it is really frustrating to think what might have been if they had taken their catches and batted with a bit more common sense. I have enjoyed my first ever experience of watching every ball of a test match though - what a treat under blue skies!

I am now back in my hotel watching the Grand Prix, whilst there is a huge thunder storm going on outside. Because I haven’t watched enough sport yet today!
