Adventure 2 - Day 1 - In the Air

The blog is BACK! I am going to start this blog with an apology though - I realised that I promised a postscript to Adventure 1, but never got round to doing it. Anyway, here we are - starting Adventure 2.

After a minor panic back in Hertford on Sunday afternoon that I could not find my debit card (don’t worry, it was the back-up to my back-up to my back-up), I caught the train down to Gatport Airwick. It was surprisingly straightforward, with just two changes from Hertford East.

I had booked a room at one of the hotels in the terminal, and it was quite an experience. I can safely say that I have never had a runway view in a hotel before. The bed was super comfy, although I didn’t get a huge amount of sleep as I was so paranoid about sleeping through my alarm.

I did not sleep through my alarm, and it was plain sailing through the airport, giving me time for a yummy breakfast and a bit of shopping. Some of the highlights of my airport experience were now being allowed two litres of liquid in hand luggage, the league table of security gates, and the dancing Christmas Tree in WH Smith.

The plane departed on time and the flight has been comfortable. I have watched the entire season one of Ted Lasso, enjoyed the in-flight WiFi and got a bit of kip, although not as much as I would have liked.

One of the benefits of the WiFi has been that I am writing this at 12000 metres. We’re an hour away from Singapore now, and with a 5:30am landing time, I am very much hoping I can get a couple of hours in a bed before officially starting Day 2!

(Update: I am posting this now having had the few hours sleep I hoped for - and with the Blue Jays going into the 12th inning in game 3 of the World Series!)
