Day 56 - It Was Fun Whilst It Lasted

I had an early morning in order to get to an exciting geocaching event in the city. Geocaching had its 25th birthday this year and to celebrate there have been ‘Community Celebration Events’ (CCEs) across the globe. I have narrowly missed out on ones throughout my travels, so was delighted to see one taking place in Adelaide this morning. Not only was the timing perfect, but the location was too, as it was an easy bus ride from my hotel and a short walk to the cricket from there.

The event took place in a local bakery. Having had hotel breakfast, I did not partake in the very yummy looking Christmas baked goods - incredibly self restraint if I say so myself! The people there were lovely, and I really enjoyed my time chatting with them. I may have forgotten to take a photo of everyone, but I did take a photo of some of the biscuits!

I had a lovely walk to the ground, via the cathedral, and was there in time for the first ball. I was able to sit in the lower tier and had a cracking view of England’s run chase.

There were moments of hope - just before Smith was out (to a rather ill-judged shot) being one of them. I had not expected to still be at the ground at lunchtime, so it definitely went better than expected.

I was sat with the JGs (Johns Gent and Gould) for the disappointment in the afternoon, but it was a valiant effort from England in the end.

I walked back to my hotel and had a quick nap to try to shake this cold, before going out with my tour group for farewell drinks. It was really nice and we even saw the England players (from a distance) returning to their hotel.

I then headed off to find some dinner (a lovely steak at a pub) and some geocaches. Sadly I seem to have made poor decisions again here though, as others in the group went out and ran into Tuffers and Aggers. Some even stopped by the players’ hotel and got a selfie with Jacob Bethell!

I am now back in my hotel and doing my packing ready to fly on to Melbourne tomorrow. I have loved Adelaide (possibly my favourite Australian city?), but am very excited to see the Australian branch of the Webb family tomorrow.
