Day 40 - Catches Win Matches…
The day started full of promise - the tenth wicket partnership between Root and Archer last night provided cause for optimism. With it being a day-night match, there was plenty of time to spend discussing the state of the game at the rooftop pool this morning under clear blue skies.
I left the hotel a little later today, which worked well as the bus was much less crowded and I was still at the ground well over half an hour before the start of play - plenty of time to get the free ‘Glenn McGrath sunnies’ that Toyota were giving out (Harris the Yaris will be delighted that I now have Toyota branded sunglasses!) and to enjoy a slushie!

Root and Archer looked assured for a couple of overs…. Until Labuschagne took a great catch to dismiss Archer, meaning England were bowling earlier than they would have liked.

Whilst England were a little unlucky in the first session, the Jamie Smith drop and some freebies from the bowlers had England up against it and us all a bit downhearted at the interval. A massive group of Aussies dressed as Scots were not rubbing it in at all….

The next session was a little bit better, but still not great - just a couple of wickets.
By the early evening, things were looking even worse. It was painful viewing until a magical over from Carse. The catch from Jacks (following a drop by Duckett two balls earlier) was amazing. I was sat just a bit round from where Jacks did a superman impression, and that was definitely the highlight of the day.
It could have been even better for England, but there were more dropped catches - five in total over the course of the day - meaning it was a pretty frustrating day!

I was feeling quite tired (and a little head-achey) by the close of play, so decided to get an Uber back to the hotel, and ended up sharing with the guy sat next to me.
It worked pretty well - and definitely got us back to the hotel earlier and without having to walk up a hill - but out of everywhere I have travelled this year, I think I would say that Brisbane drivers are the worst I have seen! I was very pleased when we arrived at the hotel and I was able to get to my bed (from where I am writing this!)
