Day 6 - A ParkWalk and Farewell to Singapore

I had a very early alarm clock this morning, as parkrun starts at 7:30am in Singapore to avoid the worst of the heat. It still felt pretty warm to me though! I got a taxi to parkrun, as that gave me an extra 30 minutes or so in bed, and was pleased I did as it was not easy to find.

I donned my blue ParkWalker volunteer bib, pleased with my decision to volunteer to be a friendly walker given that I might have struggled in the heat. I befriended Tara and Sam from Australia, who are regular visitors to Singapore, and today’s tail-walkers.

Right from the start, it became clear that there were two first-timers who really did want a chilled out walk. One had just flown in from Malaysia and hadn’t slept at all. I chatted to them, as well as Tara and Sam, for pretty much the whole 5km, as we were a bit cut off from the pack. As the course is a 2x out and back course though, we did have other people running nearby. It did take our crew 70 minutes to finish, which was… erm…. snail-esque….. but hopefully the two girls had a good experience and might get into parkrunning. I enjoyed the views, meeting new people, and achieving my 25 parkrun milestone at such an exotic event.

There was one woman who was clearly enjoying herself so much on the run that instead of running through the finish, she kept running and ending up at the finish line of the neighbouring parkrun. I’m pretty sure I might have noticed running nearly double the distance…. Luckily her husband managed to find her and she had a story to tell afterwards.

I decided to go back to my hotel via public transport. It turns out that was not straight-forward, but we got there in the end, and in plenty of time for hotel breakfast! I was able to follow the Blue Jays as I travelled and ate. Whilst the result was not what I wanted, I am now excited to watch Game 7 in New Zealand tomorrow.

Having packed, I took a taxi to the airport, deciding that it would take less than half the time of public transport and also make sure I kept cool.

I visited the biggest indoor waterfall in the world, and had a good explore of the Jewel mall (which is HUGE, and attached to the airport). By the time I had explored and stopped for a drink, it was time to check-in.

It has all gone smoothly so far - the plane to Auckland is just about to board, which bodes well. All being well, tomorrow’s blog will come to you from the Land of the Long White Cloud.
