Day 25 - Queenstown - the Adventure Capital

We woke up to stunning views from our accommodation - certainly not a bad way to start the day.

We hit the road after breakfast and our first main stop was at the Clay Cliffs, a lovely walk out in the middle of nowhere with fascinating geology. It was very other-worldly. For movie buffs, this is where they filmed some of the live action version of Mulan.

We then continued our journey south, stopping for an unplanned New Zealand traffic jam (aka several hundred sheep crossing the road), and then an ice cream (made with fresh fruit) on the way, and driving past the location of where bungee jumping was invented. No, I was still not keen on giving it a go.

We arrived into Queenstown at lunchtime. It is a very cool place filled with activities and restaurants all around the beautiful (80km long!) Lake Wakatipu. It is certainly lively.

Whilst some of the group headed off to do various activities, five of us (Graham, Viktoria, Claudia, Andi, and I) decided to go up in the gondola to enjoy the views. A fun fact for you - it is the steepest gondola in the southern hemisphere.

We enjoyed lunch with a view and got lots of great photos. I also enjoyed looking in the nice shop up there, with a particularly fun chess set, and looking at the jellybean art!

I, obviously, went out to find some caches, before checking into the hotel for a quick nap! Viktoria and I then went back into town to a nice pub called ‘Flame’, where we were joined by some of the others for dinner.

Everyone is having an early(ish!) night tonight though, as we have a big day at Milford Sound tomorrow.
