Day 4 - Exploring Singapore
I had another leisurely start this morning, delighting in watching the Blue Jays win again to put them one win away from winning the World Series. To put my excitement into some context, the Blue Jays have not won the World Series since 1993. I have been a Blue Jays fan since my first game in 2002, watching 26 games live not only in Toronto but also Seattle, New York, Baltimore, Chicago and Boston. I’ve seen some non-Jays’ games but cheering for any other team feels wrong. So, yes, I am VERY excited about this and even though I am geographically further from Toronto at the moment, at least I am in a better time zone than the UK for watching!
Anyway, back to my day in Singapore. With a spring in my step, I set off for the National Museum of Singapore. I planned to stop at Ten Square on the way, which I read somewhere to be Singapore’s equivalent of Times Square. I’m not going to lie, not so much……!

What was impressive though was the National Museum of Singapore. There are essentially two main parts. I started with the immersive ‘An Old New World’, which allowed me to walk through a kind of interactive timeline of Singapore. Excitingly, wearing a wristband meant that I had a companion throughout my adventure - you can see my little blue crab friend on the screens in the pictures below. He would go wherever I went, and I got to e-release him into the on-screen ocean at the end too. All slightly weird and maybe technology for the sake of it, but I enjoyed it. For the record, I named the crab Christopher.

The main exhibition was more main stream, but was really well designed. I learnt LOTS, especially about the colonial era and Singapore under Japanese occupation in WWII.
I felt I had then earnt my drink and scone in the museum cafe. And what a scone it was! Nom, nom, nom. I also took the opportunity of my time in the cafe to contact the local parkrun team about the run on Saturday and have managed to become part of the volunteer team as a park walker! More about that on Saturday….
Fuelled by the scone, I took a really interesting walk down to Merlion Park, which is the opposite side of the marina from where I watched the light show last night. The walk allowed me to find a few geocaches and also to see various notable buildings, such as St Andrew’s Cathedral, the National Gallery, and the Supreme Court.

Merlion Park was pretty busy, but I got my photo with the Merlion and then had a lovely stroll along by the marina, ultimately getting to an MRT stop that took me nicely back to my hotel.

I had a couple of hours of downtime, including watching last night’s Celebrity Traitors, before then heading for a walk into Little India. I very much enjoyed the vibe as I walked around shops and restaurants, especially with lots of the Diwali decorations still up.

I visited the Sri Veeramakaliamman Hindu Temple, which was a wonderful experience, before going to a nearby resultant for a (mild!) curry.

So, all in all, another great day. Tomorrow I am going to Universal Studios, so ALL the fun will be had there!
