Day 5 - A Universally Great Day

Image
Today was Universal Studios day! With no Blue Jays game to distract me, I left the hotel at a respectable hour and caught the MRT to Harbourfront station where there is a huge shopping mall called Vivocity. It is from Vivocity that one can catch the monorail onto Sentosa Island (if you are not singing the Monorail song from The Simpsons now, have words with yourself). Sentosa Island is a ‘resort island’, which I think means ‘Island of Fun Things’ - it certainly felt that way. My main objective for the day was to go on all the big rides at Universal Studios - a task made a bit trickier by the fact that the park was closing early tonight for Halloween. Completely going against my plan to walk straight to the big rides before queues got too long, I instead got distracted by all things Minion; and queued for the Minion Mayhem ride. I had been on a version of this in California, and it was even more fun than I remembered it. Essentially it’s a fun simulator for all the family! Dragging myse...

Day 4 - Exploring Singapore

Image
I had another leisurely start this morning, delighting in watching the Blue Jays win again to put them one win away from winning the World Series. To put my excitement into some context, the Blue Jays have not won the World Series since 1993. I have been a Blue Jays fan since my first game in 2002, watching 26 games live not only in Toronto but also Seattle, New York, Baltimore, Chicago and Boston. I’ve seen some non-Jays’ games but cheering for any other team feels wrong. So, yes, I am VERY excited about this and even though I am geographically further from Toronto at the moment, at least I am in a better time zone than the UK for watching! Anyway, back to my day in Singapore. With a spring in my step, I set off for the National Museum of Singapore. I planned to stop at Ten Square on the way, which I read somewhere to be Singapore’s equivalent of Times Square. I’m not going to lie, not so much……! What was impressive though was the National Museum of Singapore. There are essentially tw...

Day 3 - A Wonderful Day by the Bay

Image
Today has been a pretty special day all round - probably one of my favourite days of the past few months of travelling. It started with a bit of a lie-in and a good breakfast, followed by watching the Blue Jays beat the Dodgers in a game that was considerably shorter than yesterday’s. This Jays team is pretty special and I am loving rooting for them from the other side of the world. I then caught the MRT down to Bayside and spent some time wandering in the ‘Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands’. Given that this is one of MANY malls in Singapore, and not even the biggest, my mind was blown. It was huge. And also very upmarket. No wonder my debit card was hiding from me at the weekend, not wanting to come to Singapore with me… There was even a mini canal in the mall that you could take a boat ride on. I declined this one… My first main stop on my ‘tourist hit list’ was the SkyPark Observation Deck, which is a pretty iconic part of the Singapore skyline. It was also the finish point of series one ...
