Day 45 - Discovering Bratislava

I left Vienna this morning after a few final caches and headed to the station, where I was delighted to find an Empress Sisi duck for Daisy, who has a rather niche collection of historical female figures in duck form….

I then made the short train ride to Bratislava. It was under an hour, but I am genuinely fascinated by the very different vibe here.

As the train station my train arrived at was not the main station, my first mission in Bratislava (ok, I lie, my second - my first mission was finding a cache near the station….) was to figure out the bus situation to near my hotel. I figured out which bus I needed pretty easily, but I was very relieved when a friendly lady helped me with the ticket machine as I was quite confused!

I arrived at my hotel in the early afternoon and was VERY happy with what I found. There were mints on the pillows - I feel that says everything that you need to know. Also note pillows plural - luxury! I would also estimate that my room is maybe four or five times bigger than my one in Vienna!?

I could not stay once I had checked in though as I was a woman on a mission. Annoyingly, my jeans had worn out from all the walking, so my mission was to get a new pair and also to recycle the worn out ones. I am pleased to say that not only was I successful in my mission, but I also enjoyed a nice walk through a park and spent time exploring a mall!

After putting my purchase in the hotel, it was then time to go to the Old Town for a geocaching event. I got to see the Presidential Palace and St Michael’s Gate as I walked there, and then spent a very happy half hour or so meeting other cachers - I particularly enjoyed talking with Christine from the Netherlands, her friend Janka from Slovakia and also another local - maybe called Susanna!?

After the event I had time for more of a wander and a Diet Coke in a local bar before heading back to my luxurious hotel for some downtime.

Tomorrow - the castle! 🏰
